Our Mission & Vision

Mission: To provide compassionate, family‑centered care, enrichment, and support for medically fragile children, ensuring dignity, joy, and meaningful connection for every child and family we serve.

Vision: A world where every child with complex medical needs has access to a loving, well-resourced home that supports their full potential. A future where families of medically fragile children never face their journey alone, supported by compassionate care, advocacy, and inclusive community.

Overview:
Special Hopes and Dreams is a newly formed nonprofit dedicated to creating a safe, nurturing, and developmentally supportive environment for medically fragile children. Our work centers on providing high‑quality care, sensory‑rich experiences, and family support services that reduce isolation, strengthen resilience, and improve quality of life. Inspired by the lived experience of caring for a medically fragile child, our programs are designed with empathy, accessibility, and long‑term sustainability at their core.

The Need:
Families caring for medically fragile children face overwhelming challenges: limited respite options, high medical demands, financial strain, and emotional exhaustion. Many families lack access to consistent, specialized support that honors both the child’s medical needs and their right to joy, play, and connection. In Oregon, the shortage of family‑centered care resources leaves many children without the enrichment and stability they deserve.

Our Programs:
Special Hopes and Dreams will launch with three core program areas:

  • Family‑Centered Care Support:
One‑on‑one and small‑group care experiences tailored to each child’s medical and developmental needs.

  • Sensory & Enrichment Activities:
Adaptive play, music, art, and sensory experiences designed to promote engagement, comfort, and emotional well‑being.

  • Family Support & Advocacy:
Guidance, resource navigation, and community connection for families navigating complex medical and disability systems.
